EXTENSION CARE & MAINTENANCE
Everything you need to protect your investment and keep your extensions looking beautiful between visits.
Proper care ensures longevity, hair health, and the best possible results.
CLEANSING YOUR EXTENSIONS
To keep your extensions looking their best, wash your hair 1–2 times per week using a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner.

Before washing, gently brush through any tangles. If you have multiple rows, section your hair to cleanse thoroughly between each row.

Use gentle motions at the scalp — no aggressive scrubbing and no roughing up the ends. For a deeper clean, a second shampoo is recommended.

Apply conditioner from the ears down, avoiding the scalp and the tops of the extensions. Rinse thoroughly.

Finish with a lightweight serum or oil, and always apply heat protectant before styling to keep your extensions soft, shiny, and long-lasting.
HARD WATER CARE
If you have hard water or well water, we strongly recommend installing a shower filter to prevent color fading, brassiness, buildup, and dryness.

We love the Raindrops Shower Filter, available at the salon.
Bloom Tip:
A shower filter is one of the easiest ways to protect both your color and your extensions long-term.

DRYING YOUR EXTENSIONS
Protect first. Always.
After washing, gently squeeze out excess water — do not rub or twist the hair.

Apply a leave-in conditioner and heat protectant, focusing on mid-lengths and ends.

Detangle thoroughly using a brush, starting at the ends and working your way up to prevent unnecessary tension on the extensions.

Blow dry using your fingers until hair is about 75% dry, then finish with a paddle or round brush for a smooth, polished result.

Never allow extensions to air dry completely, as moisture left at the bonds or wefts can cause tangling and reduce longevity.
Bloom Tip:
Extensions should always be fully dried after washing. This helps maintain softness, prevents matting at the roots, and keeps you hair looking fresh between visits.
DAILY CARE & STYLING
You can style your extensions with hot tools just as you would your natural hair — always use a heat protectant and apply heat intentionally to avoid unnecessary dryness.

Keep your hair smooth and tangle-free by brushing gently throughout the day, especially after wearing it down, working out, or being outdoors.

When brushing, support the hair at the root and work from the ends upward to protect both your extensions and your natural hair.

Consistent daily care helps prevent matting, extends the life of your extensions, and keeps them looking soft, polished, and effortless.
Bloom Tip:
A few gentle brushes throughout the day is better than letting tangles build up. Think maintenance, not over-brushing.
SUN & SWIM CARE
SUNSCREEN AWARENESS
Avoid sunscreens containing avobenzone, as it may cause extensions to turn orange or peach.
SWIMMING WITH EXTENSIONS
Minerals in pools, oceans, and lakes can dry out or discolor extension hair. Before swimming:
-
Wet hair thoroughly
-
Apply a leave-in conditioner or mask
-
Secure hair in a braid, low bun, or ponytail
After swimming, brush gently and cleanse your hair as soon as possible.
Bloom Tip:
A little prep before swimming— and care immediately after — helps protect your extensions and extend their lifespan.
SLEEPING WITH EXTENSIONS
Never go to bed with wet hair. Sleeping with damp extensions can cause damage, matting, and mildew.

We recommend sleeping on a silk or satin pillowcase with hair secured in a low ponytail or loose braid to reduce friction, prevent frizz, and protect the integrity of your extensions.
Bloom Tip:
Your nighttime routine matters just as much as your styling routine — a little care before bed goes a long way.
MAINTENANCE & MOVE-UPS
Regular maintenance appointments are essential to keeping your extensions looking seamless and your natural hair healthy.

Move-ups are required based on your extension method, hair growth, and lifestyle. Waiting too long between appointments can cause tangling, matting, or unnecessary tension at the root.

Staying on a consistent maintenance schedule allows us to:
-
Protect the integrity of your natural hair
-
Keep extensions blended and comfortable
-
Maintain a polished, effortless look between visits

Maintenance timing and pricing vary by method and will be discussed during your consultation. If you’re ever unsure when to book, our team is always happy to guide you.
Bloom Tip:
Keeping up with move-ups is the best way to extend the life of your extensions and avoid preventable damage.
WHAT TO AVOID
To protect your extensions and maintain the integrity of your natural hair, please avoid the following:

-
Sleeping with wet hair, which can lead to matting and unnecessary stress on the extensions
-
Heavy oils, masks, or conditioners at the root, bonds, or wefts
-
Skipping maintenance or move-up appointments beyond the recommended timeframe
-
Aggressive brushing or pulling, especially when hair is wet
-
Excessive heat without protection, or applying heat directly to bonds or attachment points

Damage caused by improper care, missed maintenance, or product misuse may result in additional charges or the need for replacement hair.
Bloom Tip:
Proper care protects your investment — when in doubt, ask your stylist. We’re always happy to guide you.
Proper extension care and routine maintenance are required to maintain results and hair health.
